City reminds homeowners to remove snow from sidewalks by Thursday at noon or face a $124 fine

By Jamie Perez Dec 29, 2020 2:51 PM MADISON, Wis. The City of Madison is reminding residents that they have until Thursday at noon to remove snow off sidewalks or risk facing a $124 fine. According to the City of Madison’s Housing Inspection Supervisor JoseMaria Donoso, last year the city issued 649 citations for people failing to properly clear off snow from sidewalks. Madison’s city ordinance requires that sidewalks be cleared of all snow and ice no later than noon the day following each snowfall. “This year so far we wrote 137,” Donoso said. “If you compare the same timeline last year, we were at 63.”

As snowstorm exits, next system already in forecast for southern Wisconsin to start 2021

One big snowstorm had barely departed the area on Wednesday, and forecasters already were talking about the next system that will take aim at southern Wisconsin on Friday. After dumping several inches of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the current storm had departed south-central Wisconsin by daybreak, prompting the National Weather Service to cancel the winter storm warning that was to be in effect until 9 a.m., while a winter weather advisory remained in effect for eastern Wisconsin until 9 a.m. There still is some uncertainty on the strength and track of the next system, as well as the precipitation type, but 2021 figures to start on a messy note, according to forecasters.

Streets Division to deploy 32 snow plows in response to Tuesday night snow storm

Streets Division to deploy 32 snow plows in response to Tuesday night snow storm December 29, 2020 1:26 PM Logan Rude MADISON, Wis. City of Madison Streets Division crews are planning to use 32 snow plows to clear city streets during Tuesday night’s winter storm. The storm is expected to start around 4 p.m., which means the evening commute will be challenging. Streets Division crews will be plowing and salting Madison’s major thoroughfares as the snow comes down, but drivers should still expect roads to be slippery. In addition to the 32 snow plows that will hit major roads in the area, three other trucks will deploy sand on hills, curves and intersections that don’t meet the city’s salt route requirements.
