In a statement, the Student Christian Movement of the Philippines (SCMP) has criticized the implementation of a 60-day price ceiling in a bid to curb rising pork prices in the country.
“Duterte’s pork price ceiling is artificial. It is only hurting the end vendors in our wet markets, who still have to buy from their suppliers at rising prices. With the only viable alternative being shrinking meat sales, they are righteous in protesting this facade of price control,” said SCMP National Spokesperson Kej Andres.
The pork holiday, where vendors stopped selling pork and chicken in some retail markets, took place after President Duterte approved Executive Order No. 124 which sets a cap on pork and chicken prices.
