John Urschel Talks Challenges, Life Experiences In Virtual Q&A

Staff Picks: Who s The First In-Person, Post-Pandemic Guest SPA Should Host?

It’s been a year since Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA)  hosted an in-person event. It seems like just yesterday students were sleeping in the HUB to secure their free David Dobrik ticket. Then, the pandemic hit and the in-person Q&A event was forced online. Let’s face it. Virtual concerts and lectures are a decent alternative, but there’s something special about seeing your favorite, oddly specific performers face-to-face in Alumni Hall. Penn State students share music predictions, albums they re most looking forward to in 2021

Now, with a new year, some Penn State students are eagerly anticipating new music. Hunter Smith said he is hoping for new drops from two particular artists. “First one that comes to mind is the new SZA album,” Hunter (junior-public relations) said. “That is the one I am looking forward to the most. Another big one that I think is probably going to come out this year is the new Adele album.” It has been some time since either artist released a project — nearly four years since the release of SZA’s debut album “Ctrl” in 2017 and nearly six years since Adele’s third project “25” was released, according to Pitchfork.

The Student Programming Association hosted Odom Jr. for a virtual lecture at 7 p.m. on Jan. 29 as part of the “SPA Day” event. The event was moderated by musical theater student Melody Munitz, who asked a variety of her own questions before taking questions from the live chat. Odom Jr. did not always anticipate a career in the performing arts. In fact, despite his early start — he appeared in the Broadway show “Rent at only 17 years old — Odom Jr. said he “[didn’t] necessarily have that much talent.”
