The virtual event was hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. Conservative writer observes: Segregated graduation celebrations at SIU-Edwardsville foster neo-segregation divisiveness

McIlhagga Critics allege that allowing separate graduation celebrations based on race and sexual preference at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville is fostering neo segregation. “They are working against Martin Luther King Jr’s famous idea that people should be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin,” said Laurie Higgins, a cultural issues writer with the Illinois Family Institute (IFI), a Christian organization that is affiliated with the American Family Association. “We re completely moving away from that and trending towards judging people based on just a few things, whether they embrace sexual deviance and what their skin color is.”

Mattapoisett School Committee member under fire from UMass Dartmouth student leaders

Kate Robinson Apr 5, 2021 MATTAPOISETT Student leaders at UMass Dartmouth have published a letter this week calling for Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Dr. Shannon Finning who is also a member of the Old Rochester Regional and Mattapoisett School Committees to resign for failing to address the community’s concerns with systemic racism at the school. In a letter sent to local media contacts and published in student newspaper The Torch, six student leaders including Student Government Association President Liz Anusauskas and Class of 2021 President Pearl McCarthy asked university officials for Dr. Finning’s immediate resignation, calling her “unfit to serve” in her current role.

SSC to launch mobile enrollment events

The Shawnee News-Star Seminole State College will host mobile enrollment events in Shawnee, Prague, Okemah and Holdenville throughout the month of April. These events are for summer and fall enrollment. An academic advisor, an admissions representative and a recruitment specialist will be present to answer questions and guide perspective students through the enrollment process. There is no minimum GPA or ACT score required for admission. “We wanted to simplify the process for students across our service area. These events bring the enrollment process directly to anyone interested in higher education. Current and perspective students will be able to apply, meet with an advisor and enroll – all in one short visit,” SSC Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Bill Knowles said.
