21-year-old Arya Rajendran, who successfully contested the recent civic polls in Kerala, is set to become the next Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. She will be the youngest ever to occupy the post in the country.
The youngest mayor in the country until now was Sabitha Begum who had headed the Kollam Corporation at the age of 23, reported PTI.
The ruling CPI(M) on Sunday officially declared Rajendran as the party-led Left Democratic Front s mayoral candidate in the election to the post to be held on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28: A 21-year-old graduation student Arya Rajendran elected as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation.
On her electoral debut, Rajendran, a second year Bsc Maths student of the All Saints College here, won from the Mudavanmugal ward, defeating her nearest Congress rival by a margin of 549 votes.

It was also the first time she could cast her vote in the local body election due to her age.
Rajendran is a state committee member of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and also the state president of Balasangam, the children s wing of the Left party.

Arya Rajendran sworn in on Monday as the mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram municipal corporation after securing 54 votes in the 100-member city country. She is now the youngest-ever mayor in India. Arya Rajendran is still pursuing her graduation course BSc (Mathematics) from the All Saints College in the Kerala’s capital.
Before Arya Rajendra became the mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, her home and municipal ward Mudavanmugal was famous for being home to actor Mohanlal, who is held in high esteem by actors from all corners of the country. Mohanlal was one of those who called up Arya Rajendran to congratulate on her election as mayor.
