St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The National Public Honors College, has been engaged in efforts the last several years to ensure its viability and relevancy as the premier public liberal arts honors college.
“The critical and analytical thinking skills and the ability to effectively express oneself the hallmarks of our teaching take on greater meaning in an era in which the world has expanded and become more integrated, diverse and competitive,” said Tuajuanda C. Delaware State University is fueling an acquisition plan with recently secured donations.
Buoyed with cash from two major gifts, Delaware State University is on track to complete its acquisition of Wesley College in July.

A portion of that gift will be put toward acquisition transition costs, but the university hasn’t determined exactly how much, said Tony Allen, president of Delaware State.
A few days later, the university said it had received $1 million from the Longwood Foundation, a charitable organization that invests in Delaware nonprofits. The Longwood gift will also pay for transition expenses.
Concordia College of New York campus
The Concordia University system must brace for yet another closure. Concordia College New York, a small, Lutheran liberal arts college in Bronxville, N.Y., will close this summer, it announced Thursday.
Iona College, a private Roman Catholic institution in nearby New Rochelle, N.Y., will purchase the Concordia campus. The two colleges are also developing a teach-out plan for Concordia students to complete their degrees at Iona.
The decision to close Concordia was pre-emptive, said John Nunes, its president.
“The two paths that financially challenged institutions go down is either the precipitous close ‘oops, we ran out of money, and now we have to close’ or, the long, lingering, threadbare existence,” Nunes said. “In January, our board decided that they didn’t want to go down either of those two paths.”
