light showers on Sunday evening as a result of cyclonic storm Tauktae that is raging far off in the Arabian sea, which also brought gusty winds at some places in the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The cyclone brought drizzles and stormy winds in Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Ujjain and Jabalpur divisions. Winds blowing at the speed of up to 32 kilometres per hour (KMPH) were recorded at some places, P K Saha, a senior meteorologist with IMD s Bhopal office, told PTI. A trough line from central Arabian sea to west Madhya Pradesh across Konkan, Goa, North and Madhya Maharashtra due Tauktae brought moisture to Madhya Pradesh. The moisture incursion is causing showers and winds, he said.
Biovet Pvt Ltd, an associate firm of Bharat Biotech, is confident of making a plant at Manjari in Pune fully functional for vaccine production by August- end, a senior administrative official has said. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech is the manufacturer of Covaxin, one of the two vaccines being used in the nationwide COVID-19 inoculation drive. Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao and district collector Rajesh Deshmukh visited the plant on Wednesday. The Bombay High Court recently permitted Biovet to take possession of a ready-to-use vaccine manufacturing plant, built on a 12-hectare plot at Manjari in Pune, to produce Covaxin. The plant has a ready infrastructure. Another strength of the company is that it is very competent and has a dedicated team..I do not think there is any need to create any infrastructure to start production. Everything is in place, Rao told PTI on Thursday.
This is the third time in the last four days that recoveries have outnumbered daily cases. India s cumulative recoveries have surpassed 2 crore (2,00,79,599) with 3,44,776 patients recuperating in a day. It outnumbers India s daily new COVID cases for the third time in the last four days, the ministry said, adding ten states account for 71.16 per cent of the new recoveries. A total of 3,43,144 new coronavirus infections were registered in a day. Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 42,582. It is followed by Kerala with 39,955 while Karnataka reported 35,297 new cases. The cumulative tests conducted in the country for detection of COVID-19 stands over 31 crore, and the cumulative positivity rate has also marginally increased to 7.72 per cent. However, the daily positivity rate slightly declined to 20.08 per cent, the ministry said.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced the extension of the lockdown in the state till May 25. Kumar made the announcement after chairing a high- level meeting, convened to take a decision on the lockdown, which was in place from May 5 to 15. Reviewed the lockdown in Bihar with colleagues in the council of ministers and officials. The positive outcome of the lockdown is evident. Hence, a decision has been taken to extend the lockdown by another 10 days, from May 16 to 25, the chief minister tweeted in Hindi. The state has been rattled by explosive growth in its COVID-19 incidence since the beginning of April. During the period, its total caseload has risen by nearly three times and exceeded six lakh.
