Puducherry coronavirus update: UT reports 227 fresh Covid-19 cases

The COVID-19 tally in the Union Territory of Puducherrry rose to 42,359 on Sunday with the addition of 227 new cases, the health department said. The toll remained at 684 as no fatalities were reported. A total of 2,416 samples were tested in the last 24 hours ending at 10 am and the cumulative number of specimens examined so far was 6.80 lakh, Health and Family Welfare Services Director S Mohan Kumar said in a release. There were 1,592 active cases after the recovery of 109 patients during this period. In all 40,083 people have recovered from the disease so far in the Union Territory. Puducherry region accounted for 160 of the cases, followed by Karaikal 63, Mahe 3 and Yanam 1, Kumar said.

Maharashtra: Nagpur sees 62 Covid-19 deaths in a day, highest so far

Nagpur district in Maharashtra on Sunday reported the highest 62 COVID-19 fatalities in a day, taking the toll to 5,327, an official release said. The district added 4,110 fresh infections, taking the tally to 2,41,606. With 3,497 patients getting discharged during the day, the count of recoveries in the district rose to 1,94,908, it said, adding the district is now left with 41,371 active cases. With 18,135 new tests, the overall count of samples tested so far in Nagpur district has gone up to 16,92,973. Sharad Pawar discharged from hospital, condition stable: NCP leader

NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who recently underwent a procedure for a gall bladder issue, was discharged from a hospital here on Saturday, a party leader said. Pawar (80) is in good health and is recuperating at home, said NCP spokesperson and state minister Nawab Malik. Earlier in the day, a team of doctors checked Pawar and concluded that his condition was stable. Malik said doctors have advised seven-day rest for Pawar. If his health parameters remain stable after the next 15 days, a surgery of his gall bladder will be performed, he added. Pawar underwent an emergency endoscopy for the removal of a stone from his bile duct on March 30 at the Breach Candy Hospital.
