The crash occurred along US Highway 34 that resulted in Baumgardner’s death and the hospitalization of Jamal Jenkins Junior and three children under the age of 10 that were in his car.
Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin says that Jenkins was erroneously charged with a second count of reckless homicide due to the mistaken belief that one of the children had been killed in the accident.
During the Monday Knox County committee meeting overseeing the sheriff’s department, Sheriff David Clague said the crash was one of the worst he’d seen in his 48 years, adding it was the first time he could remember requesting three life-flight helicopters land for one accident.

Galesburg man Kyle Reddick was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Knox County Circuit Court for his attempted murder case Monday but was granted a continuance.
Reddick appeared in police custody in court but requested a continuance to give time to meet with his recently hired private counsel, Steven Glasgow.
State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin had no objection to granting the continuance. Reddick’s preliminary hearing is now set to take place on Mar 29th.
Reddick is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder related to incident police referred to as a “targeted incident.”
The four victims were said to be in a vehicle in the driveway in front of a residence in the 1000 block of Monroe St. Reddick is believed to have then fired the shots into the vehicle, striking all occupants. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
According to a release from Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin, surveillance showed a man walking down Pine Street with a gas container, walking upon the porch of the residence, and then leaving. Shortly after, fie appears to start on the porch.
Galesburg police canvassed nearby gas stations and found apparent video footage of the same man purchasing the gas tank and gas at Circle K on Main Street. And from that video, Denniston was identified.
Felony murder is a charge of committing a felony in which a death occurs as a result and is punishable between 20 and 60 years in the Department of Corrections. The lesser charge is Aggravated Arson, which is still a Class X felony that could net someone a prison sentence of 6-30 years.
