David Ake, File) April 22, 2021 08:48PM By Nick Sambides Jr., Record-Journal staff NEW HAVEN — A Meriden man arrested after police said they found 2½ pounds of heroin and other drugs in his home and car pleaded guilty to trafficking Thursday in federal court.  Javier Martinez, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and one count of possession with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office released Thursday.

Get our free mobile app According to the Connecticut State Police, at 5 AM this morning, April 1, 2021, members of multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a residence on Keefe Street in Waterbury on suspected weapons violations. CT State Police Detectives found 4 adults and 2 juveniles inside the residence. As a result of the search, several firearms were seized and an illegal marijuana grow operation was also discovered. In addition, various narcotics, including cocaine and heroin were also discovered. The press release states that all of the firearms were found to be in the juvenile s bedroom. Ct State Police Police placed Kevin Matos, (12-30-95), already a registered Deadly Weapons Offender, under arrest, and also took Harrison Regan (5-26-91) into custody. Both have been charged with multiple felonies. Matos is being held on a $500,000 bond and Regan is being held on a $200,000 bond. Jose Esquilin, 43, of 238 Branford Ave., was also charged with sale of of illegal drugs and risk of injury to child. Esquilin was originally held on a $50,000 bond pending arraignment Monday in New London Superior Court. He was then remanded by the parole department to the Department of Correction, where he s is being held. According to Department of Correction records, he was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison and 5 1/2 years of special parole in May 2019 for criminal possession of a pistol. His maximum release date was December 2022.

Lt. Col. Jay DelGrosso, former chief of staff to Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner James Rovella, will now command the Bureau of Professional Standards, according to state police. DelGrosso is the former commanding officer of state police Troop E in Montville and served six years with the Stonington Police Department as a patrol officer, youth officer and detective. He has been a state trooper for 21 years and also has worked as commanding officer of the Eastern District Major Crime Squad and commander of the State Police Eastern District, which covers Tolland, Windham, Middlesex and New London counties, according to state police.
