COLFAX  Should Travis Lee Knighton be convicted of the charges on which he recently was arrested, he could be sent to prison for the rest of his life. The sheriffs of Grant and Rapides parishes are hoping that will embolden other victims they believe haven t come forward yet to contact their detectives in the ongoing investigation into the 48-year-old Colfax man. Knighton, of the 15000 block of La. Highway 8 near the Red River, was arrested a few days ago by the Grant Parish Sheriff s Office, said Sheriff Steven McCain. McCain, Rapides Parish Sheriff Mark Wood and investigators held a press conference Wednesday afternoon about the case, although they were reluctant to share much information about the investigation itself. The goal was to reach out to potential victims, said McCain.

Central Louisiana closures announced ahead of possible snow Monday

Some snow still was sticking to roofs and the ground on Monday morning around Alexandria, and some residents around Central Louisiana were without power. Pineville-based utility Cleco reported 4,300 of their customers were without power in the wake of the storm, but service was restored to many by early afternoon. Cleco estimated that the majority of customers would have their power restored by the end of the day, but some could be without power overnight. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s overnight into Tuesday morning. The La. Highway 8 bridge over the Red River at Boyce, the Richard Thompson Bridge, reopened on Monday morning, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. It had been closed on Sunday night.
