Park City’s Daly West Mine, located near where the Montage Deer Valley now stands in Empire Canyon, was a premium example of lead and silver mining operations during its heyday in the mid- to late-1890s, says geologist Brian Buck.

Just a short drive from Park City to the south sits the charming town of Midway, which was founded by Swiss families in the 1800s and still bears the markings of its origins in Swiss-styled architecture. One of the most popular attractions is the Ice Castles, featuring massive man-made ice towers and caverns it’s a great way to spend a winter’s evening with the family. Nearby is a large outdoor ice skating rink that operates throughout the winter, and Midway also has many inviting restaurants
Park City at the start of 2020 seemed poised to make progress on longstanding issues like the economy and traffic, continuing the years of work of City Hall and the wider community.
It was clear by the middle of March, though, the agenda for 2020 would change radically. The spread of the novel coronavirus made the year unlike any other in Park City’s history. For months there’s been a back-and-forth concern about lodging numbers and what a drop in tourism would mean for our local economy. At the beginning of this pandemic, our tourism-based economy seemed to be on the brink of collapse. No doubt, some small businesses, nonprofits, restaurants and Parkites are still struggling.
