MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) A second inmate with COVID-19 at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution near Madras died Friday, the 20th inmate to die while incarcerated in the state s prison system, the Oregon Department of Corrections reported.
The man, who died at the prison, was between 55 and 65 years old, but as with previous other cases, no other details were released.
As with all in-custody deaths, the Oregon State Police have been notified, and the medical examiner will determine cause of death, the department said

The Oregon Health Authority on Friday reported 1,390 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and 21 more deaths.
The new numbers mark the passage of two bleak milestones: the state has now seen more than 100,000 cases and 1,300 fatalities since the pandemic began.
“While this significant number reflects how widely the novel coronavirus has spread within our communities, I want to acknowledge every Oregonian who has been affected by this pandemic and thank the vast majority of Oregonians who’ve taken steps to protect their families, their neighbors, and the most vulnerable members of our communities,” Rachael Banks, public health director for the state, said in a statement.
Updated December 18, 2020 Joseph Lawrence Jones was scheduled to be released from Deer Ridge Correctional Institution on Friday, Dec. 11. But Jones never finished his nearly four-year sentence for assault. He died at a local hospital on Dec. 9 two days before his scheduled release. Jones had tested positive for COVID-19. He was 76. Jones is one of 20 Oregon inmates to die after testing positive for the virus. The most recent COVID-related death, which occurred Dec. 18, was also of an inmate at Deer Ridge. At the prison, located in Madras, Ore., 193 inmates and 31 staff have tested positive for COVID. Deer Ridge is the site of the state s largest current prison outbreak, with 124 active cases.

PORTLAND, Ore There are 118 active COVID-19 workplace outbreaks in Oregon as of this week, down from the record-high 124 reported last week by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
There have been 68 deaths and 12,063 cases associated with workplace outbreaks in Oregon during the pandemic, according to OHA. That’s up from the 61 total deaths and 11,139 total cases OHA reported last week.
Health officials track outbreaks of five or more employees at workplaces where there are at least 30 workers. An outbreak remains active if there has been a case within the past 28 days. The case count for each workplace includes everyone who is linked to the outbreak, whether they are workers or a close contact.
