Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs appeared in court on Wednesday and denied assaulting two women, including a former girlfriend who is he accused of coercively controlling with violence.
The 47-year-old Giggs entered the not guilty pleas from the dock at Manchester Magistrates’ Court in his first court appearance since being charged earlier this month. The announcement of the charges led to Wales deciding Giggs would not coach the national team at the European Championship in June.
Giggs was released on conditional police bail to appear at Manchester Crown Court on May 26. His conditions of bail are he must not contact the two women or go to any address where they are.

The Wales manager, 47, appeared at the Manchester Magistrates Court for his first appearance, and the three charges against him were read out before he entered not guilty pleas.
He denied assaulting the 36-year-old PR executive at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1, and then hitting her younger sister, Emma, during the same alleged incident.
The Manchester United legend has also been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour over his relationship with Ms. Greville, with prosecutors alleging the abuse lasted almost three years.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs has denied charges of assaulting two women and controlling or coercive behaviour.
The former Manchester United winger pleaded not guilty to an allegation he was violent and engaged in behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend that included isolation, belittling, humiliation, harassment, degradation and abuse, Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard during a short hearing on Wednesday.
Giggs also entered a not guilty plea of actual bodily harm to the PR executive at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester on November 1 last year.

Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs is to appear in court charged with assaulting two women and controlling or coercive behaviour.
Wales manager Giggs, 47, is accused of causing actual bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend, PR executive Kate Greville, 36, at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1.
He has also been charged with the common assault of a woman in her 20s – understood to be Ms Greville’s youngster sister – during the same alleged incident.
Giggs faces an additional charge of engaging in coercive or controlling behaviour against Ms Greville in their relationship between December 2017 and November 2020.
