France today announced it will tighten restrictions for UK travellers due to fears over the Indian variant in a fresh blow for eager British holidaymakers.
Arrivals from Britain will be required to self-isolate in a bid to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 mutation, French government spokesperson Gabriel Attal said following a cabinet meeting today.
The UK will join a list of 15 countries already on France s mandatory quarantine list - including Brazil, India, Argentina and Turkey - with tighter self-isolation and testing tules expected to be announced shortly.
Mr Attal said France will set up compulsory isolation for people coming from the UK in an effort to stop the Indian variant from crossing the Channel, adding that details will be announced in the coming hours.

Stansted Airport has won its appeal against a district council that had blocked its plans to expand its annual capacity by eight million passengers.
The government s Planning Inspectorate has sided with the Essex airport s owner, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which had appealed against an Uttlesford District Council (UDC) decision made in January 2020 to reject its expansion from 35million to 43million passengers a year.
UDC was opposed to the scheme due to concerns over its impact on the environment and infrastructure.
Inspectors heard evidence over three months this year before coming to a decision, which was announced on Wednesday.

Stansted: the Case against Irresponsible Growth, and in a referendum organised by Uttlesford District Council, 89 percent had voted against a second runway.
But It was all to no avail. In its White Paper of 2003 the Government declared its support for an extra runway at Stansted, to be open by 2012 at the latest.

BAA, the then owners of Stansted airport, set about preparing for the construction of the second runway.
This included the purchase of some 270 local homes, and in 2008 BAA submitted its planning application for the new runway.
