California Siblings Arraigned in $1.4M Workers’ Comp Scheme April 16, 2021
California farm labor company owners and siblings Elias Perez, 40, of Greenfield, and Alejandra Perez, 37, of Soledad, were arraigned on over 20 felony counts of insurance and tax fraud after allegedly underreporting payroll by over $17 million resulting in a loss of over $1.42 million to their insurance companies.
The California Department of Insurance discovered the alleged fraud after learning that an injured employee was treated out of a garage by an unlicensed professional.
The Perezes are owners of farm labor contracting companies in Greenfield called PFL Contracting Inc., Future Ag Management Inc. and Future Harvesters and Packers Inc., which primarily hire farm labor employees to harvest crops.

A Salinas resident has been sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison on multiple charges related to crimes in Seaside and Monterey.
The Monterey County District Attorney s Office said that 22-year-old Rafael Guzman was charged with first-degree robbery while armed with a gun, first-degree burglary, robbery, grand theft and two counts of unlawfully taking a vehicle. Police say he was involved in four separate incidents and multiple crimes.
Pacific Grove man sentenced to prison for domestic violence charges

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION) A Pacific Grove man will spend a total of eight years and eight months in prison for multiple charges, according to the Monterey County District Attorney s Office.
David Michael Burge was sentenced to five years in prison after a jury found him guilty of four felony domestic violence-related charges.
Along with that prison sentence, a Monterey County judge sentenced him to serve a consecutive three years and eight months in prison for violating probation.
The DA s Office said the victim was staying with her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Burge, at an inn in October 2020 when he got angry with her for refusing to warm up a frozen muffin for him. Investigators said he smashed the muffin in her face and punched her in the face.
A former Central California high school coach and local political advisor was sentenced to 28 years and eight months in prison for multiple sexual assault convictions.

KING CITY, Calif. - A Monterey County jury convicted a King City man for raping a 10-year-old girl in 2018, after investigators obtained the prime suspect s DNA from a discarded COVID mask more than two years after the crime.
The jury found 28-year-old Leonardo Ramirez Jr. guilty of several charges Tuesday in addition to the rape, including the infliction of bodily harm on a child and using a dangerous weapon.
The rape occurred Feb. 3, 2018, around 7 a.m., according to a press release issued Wednesday by Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni.
