Police appeal after hammer attack in Cheltenham gardens

Police are appealing for witnesses following a hammer attack in Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham. A 22-year-old man was allegedly hit in the face with a hammer while trying to stop an 18-year-old from being attacked on Friday. The 18-year-old is believed to have been punched repeatedly in the Premier Store on Bath Road before being followed to Montpellier Gardens where he was attacked a second time. Between 6:45 and 7:10pm, members of the public including the 22-year-old man intervened, when he was allegedly hit by a man with a hammer. Police were called at around 7.05pm and a man was arrested in connection with the incident. A second suspect left the scene and was arrested on Saturday night on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A DUDLEY man who admitted assaulting three police officers has been given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay more than £600 by magistrates. Kristopher Kenneth Kirkham, aged 34, of Buffery Road, had changed his plea from not guilty. He was charged with assaulting PCs Gilbert, Kwiecin and Rose-Laing on the same day. He was given a 24-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and put on an electronic monitoring curfew for two months, from 5pm to midnight. He was ordered to pay £300 compensation and £313 in costs and victim fund surcharge.
