Carter’s Comfort brings support to families of angel babies

ST. MARYS The Joint Township District Hospital Foundation was a recipient of 25 hand-sewn blankets for the Grand Lake Birthing Center, donated by Megan and Thomas Leidy.
Megan and Thomas gifted the foundation with the blankets in honor of their son Carter, who was born still at 34 weeks on June 25, 2019. Megan said it was through their loss, and the caring support of others, that they knew that they wanted to do something to keep Carter’s memory alive and help other parents experiencing this type of loss.

• Lima hospitals established a Community Call Center at 419-226-9000. Residents are urged to call that number before visiting a health care provider or an emergency room. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
• Call the Ohio Department of Health’s public COVID-19 hotline: 833-4-ASK-ODH. The hotline will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Masks
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend wearing face coverings in public settings while using social distancing measures. Simple cloth face coverings slow the spread of the virus. Surgical masks and N-95 respirators aren’t appropriate for everyday use and should be reserved for healthcare workers and first responders.

Health fair planned at Auglaize Mercer Family YMCA
Community health fair: 8 to 11 a.m., Auglaize Mercer Family YMCA, state Route 703, Celina.
CELINA A community health fair will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Auglaize Mercer Family YMCA, state Route 703, Celina.
The fair, in partnership with Grand Lake Health System, will offer a variety of free health screenings as well as low-cost screenings for specific conditions. The most expensive of those are PSA or thyroid screenings for $40. Fasting is required for some of the tests.
A drug take-back program will also be operating at the event with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

LIMA Ohioans who are 80 years or older can start scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments, set to begin next week.
The first round of vaccinations in Phase 1B are restricted to Ohioans who are at least 80-years-old, a break with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said is intended to prioritize the highest risk individuals when vaccines are limited.
