ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. â School officials have identified Taylor DeRosa of Royal Oak as the student found dead on GVSU s campus over the weekend.
Her body was discovered Dec. 12 by someone jogging in the area and the investigation into her death is ongoing.
Brandon DeHaan, director of public safety and chief of police, said it appears at this time that the general public or campus population is not in danger.
âThere is a lot of disbelief. At first, I think everybody kind of wanted to believe that it was a rumor, that it hadn t really happened, said Mikaela Brzuchowski, a junior at GVSU.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (FOX 2) - A spring 2020 graduate of Royal Oak High School was found dead at Grand Valley State University in what police are calling a suspicious death .
Taylor DeRosa, 18, was found dead on Saturday, December 12. The Grand Valley State University Police Department and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are both investigating the death that they call suspicious but said the general public or campus is not in any danger.
Police said DeRosa s cause of death had not been determined and they are asking the campus to not rush to any conclusions and to stop spreading false information. Police did not say what false information was being spread.

The body was identified as Taylor DeRosa, a first-year student from Royal Oak.
At this time, the cause of death has not been fully determined, according to police.
On the morning of Saturday, Dec. 12, a runner found a body on the GVSU campus near the intramural athletic fields, south of West Campus Drive.
GVSU President Philomena Mantella wrote in a letter Tuesday morning that the campus community’s thoughts and prayers go out to the DeRosa family.

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State University Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are working together to investigate a suspicious death.
According to authorities, someone taking a run found a body Saturday morning on Grand Valley State University Allendale Campus, near the intramural athletic fields, south of West Campus Drive.
Police said there was no identification with the body.
The school released a statement Saturday confirming the deceased was a Grand Valley student, but did not share further details. The full statement can be read below.
