GVSU to redevelop Mt. Vernon Avenue into pedestrian campus Grand Valley State University and last updated 2021-02-27 16:50:48-05 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Valley State University says it plans to turn Mount Vernon Avenue into a pedestrian campus. We’re told the redevelopment plan was approved during a GVSU Board of Trustees meeting on Friday. The university says the project will include a pedestrian pathway that connects four of their downtown buildings between Fulton and Watson on Pew Campus: the L. William Seidman Center, Winter Hall, Peter F. Secchia Hall and the Bicycle Factory. GVSU also tells us the project will incorporate plaza areas with art walls, seat walls and recreational space. They say the nearly $4 million project is expected to be completed by August and that it will be funded by the Strategic Capital Reserve Fund.
