The information provided by the state on Monday includes K-12, college and university school name, address, number of cases and if the cases involved staff, students or both. Students or staff exposed to COVID-19 outside the school building and are not thought to have spread the virus in the school due to quarantine or self-isolation are not included in the data.
Many factors, including the lack of ability to conduct effective contact tracing in certain settings, may result in underreporting of outbreaks, MDHHS said. This information does not provide a complete picture of school outbreaks in Michigan and the absence of identified outbreaks in a school does not mean it is not experiencing an outbreak.

A total of 136 students and staff at 29 K-12 school districts and two colleges have been infected by coronavirus in new school-related outbreaks, according to data released Monday, Feb. 8, by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The biggest outbreaks involved 16 students and staff each at Lapeer High School and at Michigan Tech University.
In addition to Michigan Tech, a new college outbreak was reported by Concordia University in Ann Arbor involving four students.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 16 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county:

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI New outbreaks of the coronavirus were reported in four Oakland County schools Monday, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Three students at Pine Knob Elementary in Clarkston recently tested positive for the coronavirus, the state reported.
Meanwhile, two students at Oxford High School, Notre Dame Prep Academy and Seaholm High School also reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus, state information shows.

In all, 32 Michigan schools were adding to the list of ongoing coronavirus outbreak locations Monday.

It s important to note that a coronavirus outbreak is different than a case. A COVID-19 outbreak is defined as two or more cases with a link by place and time indicating a shared exposure outside of a household.

WEST MICHIGAN â Earlier this week, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) nominated 11 Michigan students from West Michigan for admission to the various United States military academies.
These students will be applying for West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy
âMichigan is fortunate to have so many exceptional students who want to serve our country through military service,â Senator Stabenow said in a press release. âHaving demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in and out of the classroom, I am confident they will represent Michigan and our country well.â
