Yesterday Jacinda Ardern angrily declared that an MIQ worker had lied. That should not be a sufficiently sophisticated technique to get around our border defences, argues Duncan Greive.
It emerged yesterday that “case B” in the small yet still concerning cluster of Covid-19 cases related to the Grand Millennium Hotel in Auckland had not been previously been tested since November. This came as something of a surprise, as Covid response minister Chris Hipkins had announced that such tests would be mandatory in September of last year.

MIQ staff Covid infections: Expert suspects missing link, new locations revealed
An intermediate infection is the likely link between the Grand Millennium hotel s Covid infections among Case A and B, epidemiologist Michael Baker says.
Meanwhile health officials have today released more locations of interest visited by one of the new Covid cases linked to staff at the Grand Millennium MIQ hotel.
The businesses were visited by the security guard who contracted Covid, known as Case B.

There are three new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation and none in the community, the Ministry of Health announced today.
No new community cases have been detected since Tuesday s announcement an MIQ security guard at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Auckland had tested positive.

Bikanervala bakery in Mt Roskill has been identified as a location of interest. The Balmoral community testing station hours have been extended and will remain open until 5pm Sunday. Thirteen of the 15 close contacts identified from the worker, a security guard at the Grand Millennium Hotel, have now returned negative test results. Investigations into how the worker was infected are continuing. The person had not received their vaccine after missing two vaccination appointments. The update comes on the first day of a two-week suspension on flights from India into New Zealand. The suspension starts at 4pm on Sunday.
