The first place winners in this year’s Cutest Couple photo contest met through a dating website, ChristianMingle.com.
John Richards, 70, and Diane Jamison-Richards, 71, of Alexandria, garnered 2,088 votes, raising $522 for Someplace Safe. Diane said one of the main reasons for entering the contest was that it was a fundraiser for Someplace Safe.
“We support this worthy cause and thank everyone for donating,” she said. “We especially thank our friends and family.”

GRAND FORKS Julie Weighter, one of the world s first to survive a kidney transplant, continued defying convention until her death at age 72 on Feb. 5, 2021, in St. Louis Park, Minn.
Besides the kidney transplant when she was 15, the former Grand Forks, N.D., resident, the daughter of the late Edmund Weighter and Evelyn Ronkowski Weighter, was the first female security guard at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul. She also earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Minnesota and had a second kidney transplant in 2000.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Brown Jr. toured Grand Forks Air Force Base Wednesday and spent time visiting with two of the state s federal delegates.
The tour and briefing were classified, but highlighted in a release distributed after the meeting by Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D. Also included was Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D. According to the release sent by Hoeven s office, the senators also briefed and gathered input from Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski and the Grand Forks Base Mission Support Committee.
