GRAND RAPIDS, MI There’s lots new to see and eat at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company.
The brewery, located 1 Ionia Ave. SW in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, reopened last month for in-person dining with a revamped game room and dining area, a reimagined food menu, and new beers and cocktails.

New downtown Detroit Meijer store will have a Mudgie s Deli and more
Scheduled to open later this year on East Jefferson just east of the Renaissance Center, Meijer s Rivertown Market will be helmed by native Detroiter Marcus Reliford.
The company announced this and other details about the forthcoming 42,000-square-foot neighborhood shop, which broke ground in October.
The grocery store will be the home to a second location for Corktown favorite Mudgie s Deli and will also have a flower shop and a Great Lakes Coffee cafe.
Rivertown Market aims to offer a large variety that includes 2,000 local products. There will be a 14-foot liquor shelf with rolling ladder and a 4,700-square-foot produce department with a 52-foot produce wall. In addition to locally owned health and beauty care products, the store will sell Pietrzyk Pierogi, Ma Cohens fish and Cynt-Sational gourmet vegan popcorn.
The Mini-Midterms: Five Takeaways from Six Decades of House Special Elections
A Commentary By Kyle Kondik
Thursday, April 15, 2021
KEY POINTS FROM THIS ARTICLE There have been nearly 300 U.S. House special elections since the mid-1950s. These elections more often flipped against the party that holds the White House just like what often happens to the president’s party in midterm House elections but the president’s party has scored some noteworthy wins, too, which can cloud the predictive value of special elections.

Six decades of special House election trends
Almost exactly 47 years ago April 16, 1974 Republicans suffered what would be the fourth of five U.S. House special election losses in the first half of that year. Bob Traxler (D), who would go on to serve two decades in the U.S. House, defeated James Sparling Jr. (R) in MI-8.
Reliford, a Detroit native, joined Meijer in September 2020. He comes to Meijer with 15 years of retail experience working in several hourly and management roles in Georgia and Michigan.
“I grew up on the west side of Detroit as a kid, and came back recently to help give back and contribute to my community and city,” said Reliford in a news release. “This is our first store in downtown Detroit. There’s no one who wanted this job more than me. It feels good to be home.”
Reliford lives three blocks from the new store.
Rivertown Market will focus on a different shopping experience, similar to Meijer s three other smaller-format stores: Bridge Street Market in Grand Rapids, Woodward Corner Market in Royal Oak, and Capital City Market in downtown Lansing.
