GR Restaurant Donates Pizza to Feed More Than 300 at Vets Home
A local pizza joint has stepped up once again to give back in our community, feeding hundreds at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
In November, Mr. Pizza gave out free turkeys to families hit hard by the pandemic, who may have not been able to have a Thanksgiving dinner otherwise. This week, the restaurant delivered free pizzas to feed more than 300 people at the vets home.

Tuesday, February 9th was National Pizza Day. According to WZZM-13, Mr. Pizza fed around 185 people at lunch, 75 more at dinner, and at 1 a.m. on Feb. 10, about 50 third shifters.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â On Wednesday, Dec. 16, two teams from Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Region 6 Emergency Preparedness partnered with the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans (GRHV) to perform transfusions of the monoclonal antibody Bamlanivimab for veteran residents at the home who met treatment criteria according to the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs.
âMore than 20 members met criteria for infusion and consented to treatment. All members returned to the COVID unit after infusion and remain free of any adverse reactions at this time,â said Anne Zerbe, director of the Michigan Veterans Homes. âAt this time, this is the second and largest single-day infusion clinic to occur in the state.â

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â The American Legion McDonald-Osmer Post 451 in Ada, along with help from the community, was able to raise enough money this holiday season to provide gifts to 186 veterans in need.
Their usual way of raising money, the annual poppy sale, was not able to go on because of COVID-19, so they came up with a different plan. The post spent the last couple of months hosting a bottle and can drive, which have likely been piling up in many homes across the area. They set up drop-off bins at the Kingsland ACE Hardware on 28th street in Cascade and at the Lions Thornapple Valley Club.
More than 2,400 wreaths will be placed at Grand Rapids veterans cemetery
The annual Wreaths Across America will be held at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans cemetery, one of some 2,100 similar events planned nationwide.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The annual Wreaths Across America event, which decorates the graves of military veterans, is still slated to occur in Grand Rapids on Saturday, but under decidedly different circumstances than in previous years.
There will be no opening ceremony or speeches; masked volunteers will fan out in groups of no more than 25 people at a time.
