Mamata has claimed that he did not order a recount of votes as he feared for his life
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday asked the West Bengal government to extend medical support and counselling to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Nandigram Assembly constituency as well as monitor the security protection provided to him in view of reported pressure being exerted on him.

Modi’s government and the health ministry had claimed that Muslims are spreading this virus. As a result, Hindu extremists have set off a series of assaults against Muslims across the country.

Actor Kangana Ranaut s Twitter account has been permanently suspended after a controversial tweet related to the post-election result violence in Bengal. The account repeatedly violated Twitter policy on hateful conduct and abusive behavior , the social media site said on Tuesday.

The excitement on Twitter is palpable with counting of votes underway for the recently-concluded Assembly Elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Assam. Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is ahead in West Bengal, where BJP s Suvendu Adhikari s lead over Mamata Banerjee has reduced by over 3,700 votes in Nandigram. In Tamil Nadu, the opposition DMK is way ahead with 69 per cent of the MLAs of the DMK-Led alliance leading in their respective seats, while the BJP is leading in Assam. AINRC Chief N Rangaswamy, meanwhile, is leading in Puducherry.
Bengal Assembly Election Results: Mamata Banerjee has been in power in Bengal since 2011.
Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power for 10 years, won a third term in West Bengal on Sunday. Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is leading in 213 of Bengal s 294 seats and the BJP appears set to finish below the 100-mark. The Trinamool Congress had surged to power in 2011, toppling the 34-year Left citadel. It only improved its tally by 27 seats in 2016. For Mamata Banerjee, this was arguably the toughest poll of her political career, with the BJP which won just three seats the 2016 Assembly polls pulling out all stops in the state in a determined bid to oust Ms Banerjee, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Modi.
