$300,000 in state grants to support new college and career counselors in 22 districts
BY BUSINESS RECORD STAFF Monday, April 5, 2021 11:16 AM The Iowa Department of Education and Iowa College Aid have awarded six $50,000 competitive grants to help establish new college and career transition counselor positions that will focus on preparing more high school students for success in college, postsecondary career training and the workforce. Des Moines Area Community College is among the half-dozen Iowa community colleges receiving a grant. The funding will support new college and career transition counselors who will work in partnership with area school districts and their students and families to support career exploration and transitioning to college and career training. ANKENY, Iowa Anyone considering college can complete the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA), but may not know how to do it.
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) are hosting a FAFSA step-by-step session next Wednesday night.
It s an online event to help students take the first step toward applying for federal student aid - for free.
The Zoom meeting will start at 5 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.
It s a free event, available to anyone in the state.
