Thousands of PG&E customers without power as storm moves through Central CA

Several areas from the North Valley to the south are still waiting for power to be restored. On Thursday morning, about 200 customers in the Fresno area were without power, while in Madera County, nearly 80 customers are dealing with the same thing in the Bass Lake area. Crews are working on getting the electricity back on in those areas. Some are estimated to be back later this morning, while Bass Lake shouldn t have power restored until this afternoon. We expect as the winds die down the danger will decrease, said Diana Fredlund, a spokesperson for the Stanislaus National Forest.

Several residents have reported receiving calls from either the police or sheriff s department, asking for donations or telling people that they have missed jury duty. The scammers then ask victims to provide payment information over the phone or to send them gift cards. Deputies are reminding residents that they would never call residents and ask for payments and anyone who receives this type of call should report it immediately.

That includes at Steve’s Sportsmans Cafe in Mariposa County, located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Owner Steve Knauf is still serving up chicken fried steak and beef ribs to hungry crowds and said he is no longer listening to state and other officials. “I think they’re trying to instill fear for something that’s not there,” Knauf said. “My customers don’t want me to shut down, and I’m not going to,” said Robbie Nelson, owner of the Airport Inn Bar and Grill where people gathered for the comfort food.
