Man knocked out in drunken fight partly to blame : court

Premium Content Subscriber only A Noosa Heads man who punched a man unconscious during a night out drinking was just trying to break up a fight, a court has heard. Zaviar Alexander Scott, 26, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm to another person and was convicted in Maroochydore District Court on Monday. Scott had been out drinking with a friend in Noosa in the early hours of April 1, 2018, when two other men started arguing with his friend, the court heard. The victim and his friend had allegedly told Scott s friend he stunk . Crown prosecutor Gerry Elmore said while Scott wasn t the instigator of the fight, he did step in to try to break it up when the argument escalated.

Convicted drug trafficker s life ruined by 7 year court fight

Premium Content Subscriber only A convicted Sunshine Coast synthetic cannabis trafficker has had her life ruined due to seven year delay in the court proceedings. Phaedra Joy Barrett, 49, pleaded guilty on Monday to trafficking and producing dangerous drugs from April 2013 to August 2014, and possessing cash and other items used to run her synthetics cannabis business on the Sunshine Coast. The mother of two had previously appealed a court ruling after she was found guilty by a judge-only trial and sentenced to two years imprisonment in 2020. Barrett had served 198 days in prison before winning her appeal and was released on bail.

Snapchat account lands child porn offender in court

Premium Content Subscriber only A 20-year-old man who was caught with more than 2000 images and videos of child pornography has breached the terms of his suspended sentence by failing to report a new Snapchat account on time. Rhys Jaden Friend was sentenced in September last year after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing child exploitation material, the Maroochydore District Court heard on Tuesday. He was sentenced to three years probation for possessing child exploitation material and was given one year in jail, wholly suspended for three years for distributing child exploitation material. A conviction was recorded for the distribution of the material but not the possessing.
