Regarding “ ‘Tragic and sad’: Bay Area lawmakers react to Trump’s acquittal” (SFChronicle.com, Feb. 13): The impeachment acquittal of former President Donald Trump was a public disgrace that emboldens his hotheaded supporters, and strips the GOP of any right to speak of values and ethics for the duration of its time in public service.
The trial also flaunts the blatant racism currently present in Congress. If Trump had been in any minority, he would have been convicted unequivocally. Because he is white and waters the seeds of bigotry, he was exonerated and dealt another shot to wreak havoc and destroy our democracy four years from now. As an American, it is impossible to stand proud when our own government kneels before a malicious defector.
