In 2019, Kentucky distillers produced more than 1,7 million barrels of bourbon, nearly a four-fold increase from production levels a decade earlier. So it s no surprise that bourbon has experienced a two-decade boom which has no end in site.
And Kentucky, our neighbor to the north, is at the forefront: the state produces 95% of the world s bourbon supply, according to the Kentucky Distillers Association. Another interesting fact: distilled spirit sales increased 55% after the COVID-19 pandemic began.
In recent years, our area has seen several local distilleries pop up, garnering great support from locals, and drawing visitors from far and wide. We now have Old Glory, MB Roland, Casey Jones and Leatherwood, all close by.

Light shines for SES
MCCRAE lighthouse turned orange last week as a tribute to SES volunteers who turn out in their signature orange uniforms to help the community day and night in all kinds of weather.
Wear Orange Wednesday, celebrated with the assistance of McCrae Lions, Wednesday 19 May, honoured the SES’s essential role come storms, floods, search-and-rescues and at serious road crashes.
Sorrento SES unit’s Margaret Davis said members spent an average 150 hours on operational time over 12 months plus training and activities. Training was one night a week with extra time spent with chainsaws or working at heights.

Site plan for ALDI approved for Eagles’ Landing

Via the City of Lake Ozark:
On the heels of Casey’s coming to Eagles’ Landing in Lake Ozark, it appears the prospects of an ALDI grocery store is back on the agenda for the popular shopping district.
The Lake Ozark Planning & Zoning Commission approved a site plan for a store to be located on Bus. 54 northeast of the proposed area for Casey’s. The store would be located on Bus. 54 and Krestel Lane.
The site plan for this location was originally approved by the P&Z on Sept. 5, 2018. Revisions to the original plan were resubmitted to meet city requirements, and the P&Z signed off to allow the project to proceed. A spokesman for ALDI said they hope to begin construction documents and “move full speed” on the design and permitting processes.
