Who:
Pittsburgh Penguins (2-2-0, 4 points, 5th place in the Eastern Division)
When: 7:00 p.m. eastern
How to Watch: AT&T Sportsnet in Pittsburgh, MSG+ in the greater New York area, nationally the game is on NHL Network in America and SNE, SNP and TVAS in Canada, which I assume makes more sense to the Canadians than to me
Opponent Track: The Rangers enter the night 1-2, they were shutout 4-0 in their first game of the season against the Islanders, then bounced back and shut the Islanders out 5-0 to return the favor in the rematch. That was followed up with a 4-3 loss to New Jersey for the most recent game on Tuesday. NYR stays in Pittsburgh for the weekend, playing the Pens again on Sunday night before departing to go to Buffalo for two games next week.
3 Things: Injury Updates, Defensive Depth and More by Michelle Crechiolo @PensInsideScoop / Penguins Team Reporter
Here are the 3 biggest takeaways from the Penguins Thursday practice at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex ahead of their game against the New York Rangers on Friday at PPG Paints Arena.
1. Injury and lineup updates
Defensemen Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola did not practice after both players left Tuesday s 5-4 overtime win against Washington with upper-body injuries and did not return. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan provided updates on their respective statuses. Marcus Pettersson will be week-to-week with an upper-body injury, Sullivan said. Juuso is longer-term.
In addition, defenseman Chad Ruhwedel was excused from practice for the birth of his first child.

The Penguins still have not made any moves to shore up the blue line after losing two more defensemen on Tuesday against the Capitals. Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola both left the game with undisclosed injuries, joining fellow defensemen Mike Matheson and Zack Trotman on the injured list. The team does have two defensemen on the taxi squad in Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Kevin Czuczman, and veteran offseason acquisition Cody Ceci is on the active roster.
The Pens next hit the ice tomorrow night at home against the New York Rangers.
Four Washington Capitals players are in Covid-19 protocols and the team was fined $100,000 for violating protocols after Tuesday’s game against the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. A group of players, including Alexander Ovechkin, met unmasked in a hotel room after the game.
