Local police, fire departments raise money through Red Kettle competition | News, Sports, Jobs

rspitza@miningjournal.net MARQUETTE Police and fire departments from across Marquette County held a friendly competition for a great cause last week. Police officers and firefighters squared off in a four-hour Red Kettle challenge benefiting the Salvation Army’s “Rescue Christmas” initiative. Spearheading the competition were Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt and fire chief Ian Davis of the Marquette Fire Department, both members of The Salvation Army Advisory Board. Agencies joining in on the fun with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and MFD were the Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming police departments, the Michigan State Police, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Negaunee Fire Department and the Forsyth Township Fire Department.

Two men arrested after Fox Motors theft | News, Sports, Jobs

Matthew Christopher Rasanen MARQUETTE Two men have been arrested on charges relating to the theft of motor vehicles from Fox Motors in Marquette Township, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday. In September, the sheriff’s office received complaints of two stolen vehicles from Fox Motors. Thirteen felonies were authorized and warrants were issued for seven Marquette County residents. To date, two subjects have been arrested. Arrested on Dec. 4 was David Henry Vaughan, 33, on one count of stolen property-re David Henry Vaughan ceiving and concealing-motor vehicle. Arrested on Tuesday was Matthew Christopher Rasanen, 29, on two counts of stolen property-receiving and concealing-motor vehicle.

Two suspected car thieves arrested in Marquette County

MARQUETTE, MI    Arrests have been made in connection with vehicles stolen from Fox Motors in Marquette Township in September. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the two vehicles taken from the dealership were later recovered in Muskegon. The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized 13 felonies and arrest warrants were issued for seven Marquette County residents. This month David Vaughan, 33, was arrested for receiving and concealing stolen property-motor vehicle, and Matthew Rasanen, 29, was arrested on two counts of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle. Elderly man found dead after Marquette County house fire

Elderly man found dead after Marquette County house fire December 15, 2020 10:04 AM Stephanie Fryer HARRIS, Wis. An elderly man is dead following a Monday evening house fire in Marquette County. The fire was reported around 5:10 p.m. at a home located on Elk Road in the town of Harris, according to a release by the Marquette County Sheriff’s office. Crews arrived to find flames coming from the home. An 85-year-old man was found dead inside the home, the release said. Authorities have identified the victim as Eugene Baumann. The fire is under investigation by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette County coroner, Wisconsin Department of Justice fire marshal and the Harris Fire Department.

Arrest made in Ishpeming stabbing | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 12, 2020 ISHPEMING The Ishpeming Police Department has arrested a 28-year-old Gwinn man in relation to an incident that occurred at 701 E. Empire St. in Ishpeming at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. After the police department arrived on the scene, it was discovered that a 19-year-old Champion man had been stabbed in the leg. While searching for a possible suspect who had fled the scene, officers were dispatched to UP Health System-Bell on a report of a male subject who walked into the emergency room with several lacerations to his arms. It was discovered that the Gwinn man had been stabbed four times and was stabbed at the Canda Manor Apartments before fleeing the scene to the hospital, police said. Both men were ultimately taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.
