Today’s roster move: Here
Tuesday notes.
BREAKING EVEN: The Cubs are at .500 for the seventh time this year (1‐1, 3‐3, 4‐4, 9‐9, 10‐10, 16‐16, 17‐17). Which seems like a lot, but. the 1959 Cubs were exactly at .500
34 different times, last at 50-50. The bad news is the ‘59 Cubs finished 74-80.
THE OTHER LEAGUE: In 2020, the Cubs were 12‐8 against the AL Central and are 15‐8 in their last 23 interleague games and 18‐10 in their last 28 dating to June 19, 2019. Overall since the start of 2016, the Cubs are 64‐36 vs. AL teams (.640), the best mark in the NL and the second‐best interleague record in the majors behind the Red Sox (68‐34/.667).

Last year, the front office came to the conclusion that their nickname cannot continue, and it would be irresponsible of us to believe that ours should as well. That’s why, as soon as it was revealed that Cleveland would be changing their team name, we set out to start changing ours.

CUB TRACKS NEWS AND NOTES™, we like to keep things brief on the principle that it makes us appear wise. We don’t always, but we like to. Perhaps this will mushroom into a trend.
To make a long story short:
Matt Duffy and Jake Marisnick occupied the pine at gametime but they must have loaned out the contact bats a la Matt Szczur, or it really
is true that hitting is contagious. Trevor Williams started, threw four innings, allowed two earned runs, threw 80+ pitches in that span. Nick Martini pinch-hit for him, and never returned as David Bote was picked off of second base, with the pitcher due up. They both entered the game late and Duffy put his stamp on the game as it became a battle of bullpens.
