Oddly enough, despite the Cubs’ poor start to 2021, both they and the Braves enter this series under .500. The Cubs are 5-7, the Braves 5-8. Atlanta just broke a four-game losing streak with a win over the Marlins Thursday afternoon.

It has been an up and down start to the season for the Atlanta Braves who will head into this weekend’s series in Chicago with a sub-.500 record. The best way to describe the Braves’ play so far in 2021 is inconsistent. They were swept in the Opening Series and scored a total of three runs. They won four straight to get back to the .500 mark, but then saw their pitching largely fall apart against the Marlins. HELLO, OLD FRIEND: The Cubs and Braves didn’t play each other last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, snapping the longest streak of consecutive seasons played by two teams in U.S. professional sports history at 146 campaigns from 1874-2019, including two seasons in the National Association.
NEED TO FACE MORE LEFTHANDERS: The Cubs are hitting .242 (23-for-95) with an .814 OPS against left-handed pitching, but have just a .135 average (36-for-267) with a .472 OPS against right-handed pitching.

Often, it’s with his girlfriend. Occasionally, he’ll tune in at work. And with Phoenix on the verge of making the playoffs for the first time since the 2009-10 season, Suns games haven’t been this meaningful to Weinhold since he was in grade school.
He has just one problem: He can’t watch the games on his television.
