A project five years in the making, the anthology feature
Women’s Stories is finally making forward progress as it begins building its ensemble roster with the additions of Cara Delevingne (
Carnival Row), Eva Longoria (
Desperate Housewives) and more, according to Deadline.
The film, which will feature seven segments helmed by female directors from all over the world and shot in Italy, India and the U.S. and range in genres from drama to comedy to docu-drama and animation, will feature an entirely-female cast. In addition to Delevingne and Longoria, the ensemble will also include Margherita Buy (
Me, Myself and Her), Marcia Gay Harden (
The push to include more female voices both in front of and behind the camera in filmmaking continues, and another stride is being made via anthology film
Women s Stories will be comprised of seven segments directed by female directors from different parts of the world, shot in Italy, India and the US. They will range in genre from drama to comedy, docu-drama to animation.
The first four segments have been mapped out:
Unspoken will be directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi and star Italian actress Margherita Buy;
Lagonegro will be directed by Lucia Puenzo and star Longoria;
Elbows Deep will be directed by Hardwicke and star Delevingne, Harden and Jasmine Luv; and

Absolutely no offense to those films (which are all incredible and deserve your streams), but there are tons of fantastic queer films that are a bit more under the radar. 1. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2020)
Netflix has announced its most ambitious film slate ever for 2021.
While movie theaters sit empty and studios worry about additional delays and revenue losses due to the coronavirus, Netflix will be at least one new film every week this year and 70 in total.
The streaming giant unveiled its 2021 release list Tuesday morning with a trailer featuring actors who will star in upcoming Netflix movies this year, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Meryl Streep, Zendaya, Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Gal Gadot, Dave Bautista, Naomi Watts, Jake Gyllenhaal, John David Washington, and Octavia Spencer.
Included on Netflix’s release list are several movies with local ties, including “Don’t Look Up,” the star-studded comedy currently filming in Massachusetts.

Movies have been getting made in Massachusetts for almost as long as movies have been getting made anywhere.
The first movie filmed in the Bay State, according to the Massachusetts Film Office website, was the “Rip Van Winkle Series” dating from 1896 to 1903 and shot on Cape Cod.
The Wikipedia website lists more than 200 films shot in the Bay State, but the Massachusetts Film office website lists plenty more. Thanks to tax credits, which went into effect in 2006, more and more film companies have decided to make movies in Massachusetts. Last year was particularly popular with 18 feature films shot in the Bay State.
