NBA YoungBoy found dead in his prison cell? A viral Facebook post made to look like a news report claimed the recently incarcerated rapper had died in prison.
Gossip Cop looked into the rumor and can provide an accurate update on his condition.
A little over a week ago, a screenshot of what appeared to be a news report announcing the death of NBA YoungBoy was posted to Facebook. The text on the purported report read, “The worlds biggest artist NBA YOUNGBOY who’s real name is Kentrell DeSeaun Gaulden was found dead in his cell earlier today.” There were several red flags about the post that eventually caused suspicion.
Gaulden alive, officials confirm
Similar rumors about the rapper s death have been shared on social media before, but just like this one, they are false.
Gaulden was not found dead in his cell, Greg Moroux, chief legal counsel at St. Martin Parish Sheriff s Office, told USA TODAY.
Gaulden was incarcerated at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on April 13, where he s still in custody as of May 26, according to the custody record.
Gaulden, 21, was arrested in California in March after fleeing from police, WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge, La., reported. He had an outstanding warrant on drug- and weapons-related charges from a September 2020 arrest in Baton Rouge, where he s from.
Jatona Gary has been identified as the woman who was shot to death in Breaux Bridge over the weekend. The suspect, Warren Joseph Chavis, was her uncle.
NBA YoungBoy, who’s allegedly expecting his eighth child, appeared before Magistrate Judge Scott Johnson via video from the St. Martin Parish jail on April 15 and pleaded not guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of an unregistered firearm.
The Billboard chart-topping artist’s arrest was preceded by a dramatic foot chase involving a helicopter and the Los Angeles Police Department’s K9 unit. NBA YoungBoy was wanted on a federal warrant related to his September 2020 arrest on drugs and weapons charges and reportedly skipped out on mandated drug tests.
His bond was denied.
