Volunteer with Lubbock Habitat on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Enter your number to get our free mobile app While some may take the day off, Lubbock Habitat for Humanity will be working on Martin Luther King Day. The nonprofit organization is requesting Lubbock residents to assist them in building affordable housing for those in need. Lubbock Habitat Executive Director Christy Reeves tells KAMC News that the best way to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is to give back to the East Lubbock community. Habitat for Humanity will be hard at work on Monday, Jan. 18, working in the Talkington Addition construction site at 4040 North Guava. Habitat for Humanity, with funding from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Foundation, began working on the addition of 22 new homes back in March of 2016.
