Four Students From Northern Panhandle Named WVU Bucklew Scholars | News, Sports, Jobs

REPORTS MORGANTOWN Four Northern Panhandle high school seniors Wheeling Park High School’s Elijah Wright, John Marshall High’s Zara Zervos, Weir High’s Samantha Antol and Madonna’s Madalena Daugherty on Monday were among 20 seniors statewide named 2021 West Virginia University Bucklew Scholars. The award, valued at $40,000 over four years, also allows each of the 20 to be considered for the Foundation Scholarship, WVU’s highest academic scholarship. Resolute in pursuit of their goals, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to their communities, these high school seniors have demonstrated resiliency as disruption hit at a pivotal time in their lives. Six scholars seek careers in engineering: Dayne Gibson, an engineering major from University High School, Isabella Hart, a mechanical and aerospace engineering major from Hurricane High School, and Zara Zervos, an aerospace engineering major minoring in business from John Marshall High School.

Mar 5, 2021 Fay Juanita Wright, 81, of Williamsport, MD went into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center. Born Dec. 4, 1939 in Keezletown, VA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Deeds, Sr. and Mamie Ellen Pence Deeds. Fay is survived by her children, Paul and wife Morgan Wright, Jon and his fiance, Kristin Frace, two grandchildren, John-David and Noah. In addition, she is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Shade, Gail Boarman and Sharon Naf, and three brothers, Hilary Deeds, Danny Bean and John Jeff Naf, along with faithful lifetime friend, Carolyn Stickel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry W. Gene Henry, 88, of Martinsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring. He was born at the original Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring, son of the late Dr. Harry E. and Marian L. (Ake) Henry and lived most of his life at the family home in Martinsburg. Surviving are a brother, E. Edward Henry of Mifflinburg; three nieces: Mitzi Jones of Camp Hill, Mindy Lind (Dale) of Lewisburg and Marcie Bechtold (William) of Chambersburg; three grand-nieces: Kelly Lapetina (Daniel), Amber Lind and Morgan Bechtold; two grand-nephews: Nathan Lind (Allison Grose) and Billy Bechtold (Heather Newman); and longtime friend and caregiver, James M. Reeves.

Feb 19, 2021 Barbara Ellen Dyche McKee, as a dedicated mother first and foremost, it is only fitting that Barbara Ellen Dyche McKee, (Barb) 78 peacefully pass away, at home, on Feb. 5, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family. Barb was born in Martinsburg, WV in 1942 to the late Winfred H. Dyche and Ellen Christina Brant Dyche. On Feb. 6, 1971 she married the love of her life, Michael Allen “Mick” McKee who preceded her in death in 2008. There is comfort in knowing Barb and Mick are celebrating what would have been their 50th anniversary together for eternity. Barb attended Martinsburg High School (class of 1960) where she was the lead majorette and involved in school organizations. She continued her education at Shepherd College, prior to working at Potomac Edison until the birth of their daughter, Alyson, when she dedicated her life to her most valued job, being a mother and wife. Barb resided in Maugansville, MD where she was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist
