To the editor:
After much contemplation, From Our Hearts has decided to cease operations. Many factors went into this very difficult decision. We found it difficult to continue as a totally volunteer-run organization, as many other volunteer organizations have found.
From Our Hearts started as a grass-roots effort in 2002 and became a non-profit 501c3 organization in 2004. The first BreastFest was held at the St. James City Hardware Store in 2002 and later moved to the St. James City Civic Center. FOH raised money to support the residents of Pine Island that needed assistance with breast cancer screening and treatment. Since 2005, From Our Hearts provided almost $500,000 in care.

Graeme Staddon is raising money for two cancer charities and initially set out to complete 12 26-mile runs in as many months. He has so far raised more than £4,000 and has decided to squeeze in an extra marathon - taking the total to13. It will take place on December 20 when he will run/walk/crawl 52.4 miles from West End in Southampton to Sandbanks in Poole. His father-in-law, Tony Rest, a chemistry professor at Southampton University, died of prostate cancer in 2016 aged 73. The following year his father, John Staddon, 79, was diagnosed with breast cancer - a rare condition in men - and had to have an operation.
