UPDATE: MSDC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESIGNS

Allison was hired in the summer of 2018. She took over the position on August 1, 2018. According to MSDC Board President Jene Crook, Allison’s resignation will be effective May 15. Crook said the board will be seeking Allison’s replacement immediately. Crook said the board will advertise on several websites to try to find candidates. “We’re looking for somebody who has experience in economic development and has some enthusiasm to go forward, “she said. “Because of the ecominic-development tax that was passed, we are getting some things done and attracting some interest, and we need somebody who can follow through on that.”

COUNTY COMMISSION GIVES UPDATE ON FORENSIC AUDIT

Guthrey said the commission will announce when that presentation will take place, and it will be open to the public. In other news, in a followup phone call to Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. for clarification, he said the county is going to continue to pay Marshall-Saline Development Corporation $25,000 this year for economic development services. The county also has budgeted $5,000 per month for the next seven months to pay Flotron & McIntosh (FM). That money also is in the line item to MSDC- making it $60,000 total. If the county decides to extend the agreement with FM- which can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice- the monthly payment will be taken from the county’s contingency fund in the budget.

MSDC BOARD APPROVES COST OF FEASIBILITY STUDY AT MARSHALL JUNCTION

A six-figure cost for a feasibility study has been approved by an area board. According to unofficial minutes from the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation board meeting on November 20, 2020, board president Jene Crook asked the board for its thoughts on covering the cost of a feasibility study on bringing a steamboat museum to Marshall Junction. MSDC will apply for a Buckner grant. Bill Stouffer, who has requested the funding, has said that he will try to raise funds for reimbursement of the cost of the study to MSDC. Stouffer told the board he has received a letter of intent from the Tri-County Community Foundation that it has voted to award a grant of $15,000 to help with reimbursement toward the cost of a forgivable loan for MSDC from Wood & Huston Bank for $30,000 to be paid in three years.

COUNCIL CONSIDERS ORDINANCE TO MAKE ANNUAL PAYMENT TO MSDC

The council voted 6 to 2 to approve the first reading of the ordinance. However, it will need to be approved again during a future meeting before it goes into effect. In other news, Ward 3 Councilman Dan Brandt reported the city’s curbside yard-waste pickup has ended for the year. However, he says the compost area will remain open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 7 a.m. until noon on Saturdays throughout the winter months.
