While Cupra as a marque had to start off by adapting an existing SEAT model – the Ateca SUV – to launch its new enterprise, it then produced the magnificent Formentor: a bespoke SUV that will not be sold as a SEAT. But what we’ve really all been waiting for is a follow-up to past SEAT Leon Cupras – and now we’ve got it, in the form of the rapid Cupra Leon 221TSI tested here, based on the fourth-generation Spanish family hatch.
Wonderfully understated
But they will be joined by a serious hot hatch – the 2022 Cupra Leon – aimed at those who find its main competition, the Honda Civic Type R, a bit too lairy in the visuals department.

Porsche has unveiled a new £144,000, range-topping model for its large SUV line-up called the Cayenne Turbo GT. Available only in four-seat Cayenne Coupe form, the new Turbo GT variant hits back at high-performance rivals such as the Lamborghini Urus thanks to a tuned version of Porsche’s 4.0-litre V8 which now produces 631bhp and 850Nm of torque - increases of 89bhp and 50Nm respectively over what was the most potent ICE version in the line-up, the Cayenne Turbo.
Using the upgraded engine combined with a recalibrated eight-speed automatic gearbox that now shifts quicker, four-wheel drive and launch control, the Turbo GT sprints from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds and will hit a top speed of 186mph.

Porsche is introducing a new high-performance Cayenne called the Cayenne Turbo GT.
The beast’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 develops 631 hp - 90 hp more than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe and torque is up from 567 to 626 lb.-ft.
The newest Cayenne can hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds.
The car that turned a 7:38.9-minute lap is called the Cayenne Turbo GT. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pumps out 631 hp - 90 hp more than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe and 626 lb ft, 59 lb ft more. The new Cayenne can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds (!), complete the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds, and “achieves a top track speed of 186 mph, making it the quickest, and fastest production Cayenne ever offered by Porsche,” the company says.
