PBA to implement 20% salary cut on teams, employees

Published April 20, 2021, 5:41 PM The PBA will implement a 20-percent salary cut on teams and employees as part of measures to deal with the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said Tuesday, April 20 that league employees, players and coaches are going to be affected by the salary cut which he recommended during a meeting with the Board of Governors the other day. Utilities who work for the team will be exempted from the deductions, Marcial added. Marcial had discussions with affected parties prior to the press conference, saying it’s a way to repay the teams which paid them in full since the start of the pandemic.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he had initial talks with Ilocos Norte governor Matthew Manotoc regarding the possible staging of the bubble up north, but added that the offer could be entertained depending on the current COVID-19 situation. Marcial also discussed the matter with Perry Martinez, who heads the Metro Ilocos Norte Council. Both officials are no stranger to the PBA, with Manotoc being a player agent prior to his political career while Martinez once headed the league’s technical committee.
