Traveling to Thailand during Covid-19: What you need to know before you go

Traveling to Thailand during Covid-19: What you need to know before you go If you’re planning to travel to Thailand, here’s what you’ll need to know and expect if you want to visit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The basics Thailand has recorded 92 deaths and close to 29,000 cases of Covid-19 as of April 1. On April 1, Thailand reduced its mandatory quarantine-on-arrival period from 14 days (15 nights) to 10 days (11 nights). However, travelers from countries with Covid-19 variants are still required to undergo the quarantine period of 14 days (15 nights). The Tourism Authority of Thailand announced that Phuket will be the first destination in Thailand to reopen to vaccinated foreign visitors without quarantine requirements from July 1.

When can I visit south-east Asia? Latest travel advice for Thailand, Vietnam and Bali

There s a long way to go until restriction-free holidays can return 17 March 2021 • 12:34pm A 14-day mandatory quarantine awaits all visitors to Thailand Credit: Getty South-east Asia is reassuringly absent from the UK s red list of countries from which travel is banned – but does that mean the outlook for holidays is rosy? Unfortunately not.  All Asian nations have their own strict travel restrictions in place. Some impose outright bans on holidaymakers, while others have adopted mandatory quarantine schemes so draconian (Vietnam s lasts 21 days) that their borders are closed in all-but name.  And logistically, there are complications too: many flights to Asia connect in the UAE and Qatar – both of which have now been added to the red list, the latter with just three days notice. This means that direct flights are banned, and returning Britons must isolate in hotel quarantine. There are alternative airports to transit though, yes, but complications are rife.
