Freeform optics instrument to help probe Venusian mysteries

Freeform optics instrument to help probe Venusian mysteries 03 Jun 2021 DAVINCI+ mission selected by NASA will determine composition of Venus atmosphere and whether the planet ever had an ocean. NASA has selected two new missions to Venus, one of which will feature an ultraviolet imaging spectrometer based around freeform optics. The cutting-edge instrumentation on board the “DAVINCI+” (Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging) mission is designed to help reveal how the planet became so hot, when in many respects it is similar to Earth. Planetary scientists believe that Venus may even have been the first habitable world in our solar system, possibly with continents, an ocean, and an Earth-like climate.

Ingenuity at Third Airfield – NASA s Mars Exploration Program

May 27, 2021 This image of Ingenuity was taken on May 23, 2021 – the day after its sixth flight – by the Mastcam-Z instrument aboard the Perseverance Mars rover. The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was built by JPL, which also manages the technology demonstration project for NASA Headquarters. It is supported by NASA’s Science, Aeronautics Research, and Space Technology mission directorates. NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley, and NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, provided significant flight performance analysis and technical assistance during Ingenuity’s development. AeroVironment Inc., Qualcomm, and SolAero also provided design assistance and major vehicle components. Lockheed Martin Space designed and manufactured the Mars Helicopter Delivery System.
