Vazhakkulam reports second shigella case in Ernakulam

The district has reported its second case of shigella bacterial infection with a 39-year-old from Vazhakulam being diagnosed with it on Monday.
The first case was reported from Chottanikkara in the last week of December.
After the patient sought treatment at a private hospital, his samples were sent to the regional public health laboratory and the Government Medical College at Kalamassery for confirmation of the infection. The patient is recovering at the hospital.
Health officials in the district, including medical officers from the Vazhakulam and Malayidamthuruthu health centres, visited the area. A meeting of experts with the District Medical Officer-in charge and the District Surveillance Officer was held to evaluate the situation.

BENGALURU: More teachers and students have contracted Covid-19 after schools reopened in the state on January 1. On Tuesday, 50 teachers tested positive in different parts of the state, leading to closure of several schools.
In Belagavi, 22 teachers who tested positive are in home quarantine and are not in contact with colleagues or students. A school at Kadoli village in Belagavi taluk was shut for a day after a teacher showed Covid-19 symptoms
AB Pundalik, deputy director of public instruction, Belagavi educational district, said teachers had undergone Covid-19 tests last week. “Those with symptoms were asked not to come to school and those who tested negative conducted classes for the tenth standard students,” he added.

PESHAWAR: Coronavirus on Friday claimed the life of another doctor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the number of medics losing lives to the viral infection to 41 in the province.
