Women employees, police, Grama Mahila Samrakshana Karyadarshulu (GMSKs), students, anganwadi staff, ANMs, and doctors participated in the celebrations. Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan conveyed his greetings to women on the occasion. He said that women were playing a vital role in the development of the country.

Police said they have arrested three accused Kishan (20), Jishan (18) and Ritik (18) all residents of Govindpuri area, and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the incident. The incident took place near the girl’s school on Friday, when she was returning home along with her 17-year-old brother after attending classes, they said.

There is a need to pass a separate legislation for efficient functioning of these committees, said V. Ramaraj, member, Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights, here on Friday. After chairing a meeting with officials from various departments regarding prevention of female infanticide, he said that the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights would work towards introducing legislation for these committees. The meeting was organised in the wake of an arrest made in connection with the murder of a seven-day-old female infant - the third girl child of a couple from K. Parapatti in Usilampatti block.

Ryshyanth, Superintendent of Police (SP), Mysuru District. He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Child Rights Protection Act’ organised by Directorate of Child Rights, Department of Woman and Child Development and District Children Rescue Unit here yesterday. Giving strict instructions to Officers and staff, the SP said that any complaint regarding child marriage, be it from officials or from citizens, must be taken up immediately and file FIR under Child Marriage (Prevention) Act. At any cost they must protect rights of women and children. Delay in filing case was like encouraging violators of law.
