SC adjourns to April 19 hearing in case related to COVID-19 spread in children shelter homes

Supreme Court of India ANI | Updated: Apr 12, 2021 12:48 IST New Delhi [India], April 12 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned for April 19 hearing in a case taken by it suo moto relating to COVID-19 spread in children shelter homes across the country. A Bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Vineet Saran adjourned the matter for next Monday as Justice Saran did not have relevant documents of the case. Amicus Curiae advocate Gaurav Agrawal, who is assisting the court in the case, said that he will ensure the documents are sent to the Bench. Earlier, the Bench had passed a slew of directions in the case and ordered all the state governments to provide necessary infrastructure, stationaries, books, and other equipment to Child Care Institutions for online classes on the basis of recommendation made by District Child Protection Units within 30 days.

The Supreme Court of India has passed many judgments and orders in the matters related to COVID-19, in the year 2020. In this write-up, the important pronouncements are briefly discussed. CONSTITUTION OF HIGH-POWERED COMMITTEE IN EACH STATE/UNION TERRITORY FOR RELEASE OF PRISONERS ON PAROLE OR INTERIM BAIL. A Bench comprising the Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justices L. Nageswara Rao and Justice Surya Kant directed that prisons must ensure maximum possible distancing among the prisoners including undertrials. SC directs state govts to provide infrastructure, books to child care institutions for online classes ANI | Updated: Dec 15, 2020 13:50 IST New Delhi [India], December 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all the state governments to provide necessary infrastructure, stationaries, books, and other equipment to child care institutions for online classes within 30 days. A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao ordered that States should ensure that the required number of teachers are also made available to teach children in the child care institutions. The top court passed a slew of directions to cater to the educational needs of child care institutions and children who have been restored to families from these institutions. It also ordered that extra classes should also be imparted to children to equip them for final exams to take place next year if needed.
