On Friday, May 5, 1950, a column on the left-hand side of the Standard Freeholder’s city and district news front page boasted the headline: “Mayor’s Orphanage Relief Fund Being Swelled By Donations,” because Cornwall had suffered another tragic fire.
At the bottom of the page, there is a photograph of Rev. Sister Ste. Emily and Mrs. McDougall, with three children. The children are all clearly younger than eight, and they all wear the same blank stare with big piercing eyes, painting an obvious portrait to the readers about the tragic afternoon they had just experienced.
