Elaborate security arrangements have been made for counting of votes on May 2 (Sunday).
Ramanathapuram Collector and District Election officer Dinesh Ponraj Oliver inspected the counting centre at Anna University Engineering College on Friday. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police E. Karthik and senior officials from the Election Cell. Mr. Karthik said the three-tier security at the counting centre would continue and only authorised persons would be allowed entry.
Violence at Beleghata Assembly constituency
Incidents of violence were reported at Beleghata Assembly constituency in Kolkata. According to sources, supporters of Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party came to blows.
In Manicktala constituency, tension prevailed as Trinamool Congress candidate and Minister Sadhan Pande and BJP candidate Kalyan Chaubey come face to face with their supporters.
A large deployment of police is deployed to prevent any clashes.

Polling was suspended here on April 10 after Central forces opened fire killing four persons. The TMC candidate objected to presence of vehicles with BJP flag near polling premises.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Wednesday that it has made it mandatory for candidates and their agents to produce negative RT-PCR test reports or complete vaccination reports before entering ballot counting centres. Vote counting for the ongoing legislative assembly elections in five states and Puducherry is slated to begin on May 2.
